Seizures

Q: What is the best form/kind of cannabis to treat seizures?

A: Great question!

Seizure disorders are quite complex. There are many different syndromes and types. Since you don’t specify children or adults in your question I will respond broadly.

So far all of the studies with mice and anecdotal evidence from parents of children and adults with epilepsy all point to high CBD, low THC strains. Although pure CBD strains have been produced, such as “Charlotte’s Webb”, parents report a better anti-seizure effect with high CBD/low THC strains. This suggests that a small amount of THC is more effective than CBD alone. Conversely high THC strains taken in extreme amounts can trigger seizures.

The most effective way to medicate for seizures is to take in a concentrated form by mouth. The cannabis will be processed and mixed with an oil such as olive or coconut oil. Suppositories can be made and given rectally if the patient is unable to swallow.

Since there is very little information from our own doctors who have not had any education on this, we need to educate ourselves so we can educate our doctors.

These are 2 sites I recommend that are up to date and reliable.

Keep the questions coming!

Warm Regards,

Nurse Anne
